About Lucy
Lucy Taylor Parker began her riding career at the age of five and grew up riding at Foxfield Riding Academy. Lucy attended Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship where she graduated valedictorian with her Riding Masters degree. Meredith Manor was the only accredited school of horsemanship in the nation at the time. After graduating, Lucy competed and trained Medal/Maclay hunters, show jumpers, and eventers through Preliminary. Though Lucy’s background is diverse, her passion is dressage. She has ridden with Olympic coaches from many countries and trained with the best riders in the world. Lucy has successfully competed nationally and is respected by many top riders and trainers.
Lucy founded the Westfalen Warmblood Association of America (WWA) and was President for over 20 years. She acted as a liaison with the parent German breed organization working closely with it to preserve breed standards and qualities. As President, Lucy sponsored awards to recognize competitive Westfalen sporthorses in the United States. Dressage awards were offered through the USDF all breeds program. Awards were also offered to outstanding competitive jumping horses. Lucy imported horses, organized breed tours, and promoted the breed by breeding and sucessfuly compeating Westfalens.
About Dressage
Dressage is a systematic methodology by which the athleticism of the horse is developed. With the proper training the horse will manifest better balance, improved cadence, rhythm, and lateral flexibility. This results in freedom of movement, agility and brilliance in all gaits.
Lucy enjoys teaching riders from many backgrounds. She finds it rewarding to work with beginners as well as advanced riders. The fundamentals of dressage can be introduced at any age and riders at Classical Hoofbeats Dressage range in age from six to sixty. Lucy deconstructs the complex theory and application of dressage. She then presents the information and instructs the rider in a way that makes dressage understandable and enjoyable. Training with Lucy will prepare the horse for a competitive dressage career or will develop the athleticism suitable for participation in other equestrian sports.
